I listened to a Go Time podcast episode about Kafka. One key takeaway from it is the importance of having a deep knowledge of the technologies/platforms you choose to incorporate into our systems. Just because your system is monolithic doesn’t mean you need to use a more trendy, modern technology. For example, an orchestrating tool like Kubernetes may not always be the best choice and may be superfluous for your system. The decision to use a technology should weigh a lot of factors such as complexity, knowledge gaps, cost, and overall value it brings to the system and organization.
