Before a controlplane node upgrade, or any worker node, it’s important to ensure that existing pods are evicted and recreated in another available node. To do that: k drain controlplane. It terminates all pods and makes the node unschedulable. If there’s taints are tolerated in the available nodes, the pods will be recreated there. After the upgrade, remember to mark the node scheduler with k uncordon controlplane.
